Ami-1

The AMI-1 facility is a custom, build-to-suit design situated prominently on the edge of a hilltop site in the San Fernando Valley. The building is divided into two main sections, one providing office areas and the other providing industrial space for a high-tech industrial manufacturing company. The project is sited on 5 acres with surface parking facilities for 150 cars and fully equipped, recessed truck loading facilities.

The building has been designed with attention to the architectural image of the building in order to both set itself apart from the surrounding environment and to provide a unique identifiable image for the client. The building is linked to the surrounding site through the use of large exterior openings that orient and reveal the panoramic valley views. The interior spaces have also been designed with a significant amount of transparency in order to assure that each space and occupant is afforded access to these views.

Public and open office areas are provided with a great deal of natural light from large windows and skylights that, combined with large and open volumes of interior space, provide light and open interior circulation and work areas. During the day, artificial light is virtually unnecessary. Executive office and conference areas have also been provided with the same features.

The same attention to the quality of space has been carried through in the design of the industrial portions of the facility including a multi-floor, sky-lit lunchroom capable of seating 130. These production areas have also been designed to provide a highly flexible and sophisticated electrical system to serve the needs of several different user groups with unique requirements including isolated grounds, clean power and high voltage systems and transformers.

The project incorporates technical features that are specific to the use of the building, but it also recognizes other aspects of design that provide a comfortable and interesting work environment for all employees.
